Workshop Highlights: Joel Balzun helps students find their voice.

At the West Covina High School Performing Arts Academy, we believe in the power of creativity and giving our students the knowledge and skills to be expressive in all mediums within the performing arts industry. That’s why we are so excited that earlier this semester, Joel Balzun was able to come out and work with our students on singing technique and vocal production.

Joel is a master of his craft, and he had a lot to teach our students about how to use their voices effectively. He helped them learn how to project their voices correctly, and how to control the sound they produce. This not only help them with their vocal performances, but it will also give them a better understanding of their own voices and how they work.

At it's most fundamental level, the singing voice is a complex and intricate system of vocal production. It works by manipulating air pressure and the vocal cords, which produces vibrations in the larynx. The vibrations create periodic sound waves that travel through the throat, mouth, and nose, which shape the tone and pitch of the sound. This process can be foreign but our students began to wrap their heads around how to properly utilize this most natural instruments.

We know that our students are going to benefit greatly from this workshop, and we can’t wait for them to start learning from Joel Balzun!
