Spotlight on Nia Peeples: Inspiring the Next Generation of Artists at WCHS Performing Arts Academy

The West Covina High School Performing Arts Academy (WCHS PAA) takes great pride in spotlighting the talented individuals who help shape the artistic journeys of our students. Today, we shine the spotlight on Nia Peeples, an accomplished author, actress, singer, dancer, and host, who brings her wealth of experience to our theatre students through private lessons and small group instruction.

A Journey Through the Arts

Nia Peeples is a household name for her notable roles in iconic TV series like “Fame,” “Walker Texas Ranger,” and “Pretty Little Liars.” She also left an indelible mark on the silver screen with her role in the surf cult classic “The North Shore” and her award-winning performance in the miniseries “Return to Lonesome Dove.”

But Nia’s talents don’t stop at acting. Early in her career, she showcased her musical prowess by recording two albums, earning her a #1 record and multiple Cashbox and Billboard awards. Her diverse abilities led her to host the Emmy award-winning series “Teen Scene,” the very first Disney channel show. Nia’s influence extended beyond the United States, as she also hosted the American version of the iconic UK music show “Top of the Pops.” Additionally, she hosted her music show, “The Party Machine with Nia Peeples,” produced by Arsenio Hall and Paramount Studios.

Nia’s performances have graced some of the most prestigious stages, including solo appearances at the Grammys and the Golden Globe awards. She even enchanted audiences at the massive European music concert, “Peter’s Pop Show.” As one of the first multiracial entertainers in Hollywood, Nia Peeples played a pivotal role in breaking the glass ceiling, opening up new pathways for artists of all backgrounds to be recognized for their talent and essence, transcending racial boundaries.

A Sabbatical and Return to West Covina

More recently, Nia took a well-deserved 7-year sabbatical from her intense 35-year career. During this time, she embarked on a personal journey to explore and listen more deeply to the creative flow within her. As her youngest child headed off to college, Nia found herself coming full circle, returning to her hometown of West Covina.

Nia’s return to West Covina signifies more than just a homecoming; it’s a heartfelt dedication to giving back to the city that supported her dreams. She has spent the past year completing her memoir, “Confessions of a Serial Monogamist,” a project that promises to inspire and resonate with many. Nia’s presence in our community offers a unique opportunity for our students to learn from her wisdom and experience, adding another layer to their artistic education.

As we kick off our series spotlighting the Teaching Artists at WCHS Performing Arts Academy, Nia Peeples stands as an exemplar of artistic excellence and a testament to the power of determination and talent. We are honored to have her as a part of our team, guiding and inspiring the next generation of well-rounded artists who will shape the future of the performing arts industry.

Stay tuned for more insights into the exceptional individuals who make WCHS PAA a nurturing and transformative environment for young artists.
